Common denture questions

Types of Dentures

Flipper- One Tooth Partial Denture

Acrylic Partial- Two or More replacement teeth, sometimes with metal clasps to hold onto your natural teeth so it will stay in your mouth better

Cast Metal Partial- partial denture with a metal framework to strengthen the partial

Flexible Partial- replacement of some teeth with a flexible acrylic vs. a rigid material

Immediate Denture- a prosthesis made before teeth are extracted and put immediately into your mouth- helps with swelling, bleeding and appearance

Complete Denture- a denture made to replace all of the teeth on an arch (upper or lower gums)

How Do I Take Care of My Denture?

You must clean your denture daily to ensure odor-causing bacteria, staining, and calculus do not build up.  We recommend the Denture HyGenie System for all types of dentures daily cleaning and maintenance.

Why Did My Denture Break?

Dentures are just like anything else in life.  After the daily wear and tear of chewing, grinding, etc, they get worn.  It is normal for breakages to occur.

How Long Do Dentures Last?

A general rule of thumb, if you properly maintain your dentures, is that you should replace your partial dentures every 3-5 years and your complete dentures every 7-10 years.  People often replace their immediate dentures within 6 months to 1 year to get a better appearance and fit after their mouth has properly healed from extractions.

Can I Adjust My Own Dentures?

This is not recommended.  You can damage the fit and the functionality of your denture if you adjust it.

Should I Wear My Dentures at Night?

In order to maintain the best fit for the the longest time possible, it is recommended for people to take their dentures out at night to give their oral tissues and bone a break from the pressures inflicted by dentures.
